CAMBRIAN HOSTS CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE FIGHT

Posted on October 20, 2026

TWO Welshmen and a Scot will be locked in a nail-biting battle for the British Rally Championship title at this weekend’s Lewis&Hunter Cambrian Rally.

Hot on the heels of the news that North Walian, Elfyn Evans has secured the World Rally Championship crown, two of his compatriots are hoping to follow in his tyre tracks by scooping the British title.

But standing in their way is Scot, Max McRae, a scion of a famous rallying family, whose members include his late uncle Colin who won the World Championship before his untimely death, and father, Alistair who was British champion in 1995. He will start the Cambrian with a points advantage over his closest rivals Meirion Evans and Osian Pryce, but in rallying, anything can happen as was proved at Rally Sardinia recently when Elfyn Evans secured the World title thanks to an error by his closest rival.

Meirion Evans may be able to take advantage of any hiccup experienced by McRae, while Osian Pryce who already holds one British title having won in 2022, will be keen win another, and isn’t too far behind in the points table.

The rally is a round of the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship, the Protyre Autocare British Trials and Rally Drivers Association Championship, the UK Pirelli Welsh Rally Championship, the ANWCC Forest Rally and Ladies and All Rounders championships, The TCS Plant Rally Challenge, the Celtic Micra Challenge, and the Stellantis Motorsport Rally Cup IRE and UK.

The British Trials and Rally Drivers’ Association Championship title has already been secured but there will be a battle for second and third places, and in the Welsh Championship there is an ongoing battle to secure championship winning points.

This is the 71st time the event has been organised by the North Wales Car Club, and for the second year running it is being sponsored by Lewis&Hunter Contracting.

The high-profile start and finish are on Llandudno promenade on October 24th with main service at Ruthin.
